Meet The Team of Adopt A Highway- Erin Marchesano, Marketing

Fun / Personal Questions:

1.       What is your favorite type of food or cuisine?

I like just about any type of Asian cuisine, but if I had to choose, I would say Filipino food is my favorite. I also love sushi. I’d eat sushi every single day if I could!

2.       What is the most unusual thing you have ever eaten?

It’s a Filipino dish called “Dinuguan” and it’s a pork blood stew. Sounds kind of gross, looks kind of gross… but it’s delicious!

3.       Do you love or hate rollercoasters?

I love them. We used to go to theme parks when I was young and the roller coasters were my favorite!

4.       How do you like to start your day? What routine makes you feel the most productive?

I’m not a morning person AT ALL, but I prefer not to sleep in even if I have the opportunity to do so. Waking up early motivates me to get my day started and fit in as many things as possible. Usually I work out, have a protein shake, and start my day from there!

5.       If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I’ve never been to Europe and while I do eventually want to visit Italy, France, and Spain, I would choose to tour the Islands of Greece if I had the opportunity. The Mediterranean is just so stunning and it’s the perfect balance for me when it comes to the type of vacation I enjoy (usually somewhere warm and tropical). The Greek Islands provide a little bit of history, a little bit of beach and ocean, a little bit of relaxation, and a lot a bit of fun!

6.       Would you rather have Pepsi or Coke? And do you call it soda or pop?

I don’t actually drink soda… and there’s your answer!

7.       What is your favorite color?

Purple and green. I find them to be beautiful on their own and even more beautiful when they are put together.

8.       If you could have lunch with anyone, who would it be and why?

Anthony Bourdain. He’s one of the most interesting and well-traveled people in this world and his passion for history, food, and culture are such an inspiration. To eat with him, at any place, anywhere in this world would be an absolute treat.

9.       Do you like Nike or Adidas?

I think I own around 14 pairs of Nike Air Max 1’s and 90’s… so… Nike?

10.   What is your favorite holiday and what do you do for that holiday each year?

Christmas has always been a special holiday for me and my family. Since I was a kid we always had family Christmas traditions but now my fiancé and I have our own Christmas traditions. Christmas Eve is spent cooking up a fabulous meal for the two of us, followed by a great bottle of wine (or two). We’ll end the night with one present, which is always a Disney movie (my absolute favorite), and we’ll wind down with a classic before going to bed. Christmas morning is spent enjoying breakfast, mimosas, and our gift to each other every year is always lotto tickets and scratchers.

Professional / Work Questions:

11.   How long have you worked for AHMC?

I have worked for AHMC for about 4 ½ years.

12.   What is your field of work and what is your favorite thing about your job?

Right now I am the Marketing Manager for AHMC, my field of work is marketing and sales. My favorite thing about what I do is cultivating a strong and creative team environment where my employees are given the tools and support to thrive. We take creative concepts and turn them into successful (and sometimes not-so-successful) marketing campaigns that support the overall growth and objectives of our business in a unique and powerful way. We learn, we grow, and we try to make a valuable and positive impact every single day.

13.   Were you familiar with the Adopt A Highway program before you started working here?

I’m originally from the mid-west and I moved to California from Oklahoma 7 years ago. Oklahoma didn’t have a Sponsor A Highway program until it was launched by AHMC this year, so needless to say it was a very foreign concept to me!

14.   What did you study in college and how has it helped you professionally?

In college I studied fine arts and majored in Graphic Design with a minor in marketing, advertising, and art history. Truth be told, I’ve been able to apply just about every aspect of what I learned in college to my professional career in some way shape or form. I no longer do Graphic Design, but having the creative background helps me to understand certain aspects of marketing and advertising that are unique. Not only is marketing strategic and analytical, it’s creative and must also be focused; all things that are key to being successful in this industry.

15.   How did you begin your career after college?

I actually graduated college a semester early and finished my undergrad in 3 ½ years because all I wanted to do was get out and work! I lived at home in Oklahoma for one year while I did freelance design work, bartended, and worked in a retail store until I had enough money saved to move to California. When I got to California I started putting my resume out there, applying for jobs, and within a couple of months began working for a digital advertising company designing digital ads for TV screens in hotel lobbies. My career began to evolve when I realized how much I enjoy the data and analytical side of marketing. A couple of jobs later I ended up at Adopt A Highway where I have been able to grow and advance my career ever since.

16.   What is your biggest accomplishment professionally?

I can’t put my finger on one accomplishment in particular, but I can definitely say that my will to stay focused and stay motivated has gotten me where I am in my professional career today. When moving to California I didn’t have any family or friends, nor did I have a job waiting for me when I got here. Through all the ups and downs, I’ve made sure to always do my best, to learn as much as I can, to be flexible and adapt in a professional environment that is constantly changing, and to experience all that life has to offer. No matter how big or how small, every day that I come to work I go home feeling like I have accomplished something and that makes for a career that is very rewarding.

17.   What makes you excited to come to work on an early Monday morning?

I’m a “planner” and Monday is the day that I get to plan out my entire week! I look forward to being organized and getting as much done during the week as possible because then I can really enjoy the weekend!

18.   What is the strangest job you’ve ever had?

I don’t know that I would call it “strange”, but definitely out of my comfort zone... I did door-to-door sales for a short period of time where I was selling office supplies to different businesses around Orange County and Las Vegas.

19.   What do you hope to achieve in the next 12 months?

I would like to improve our existing methods of marketing as well as try new methods of marketing that will directly impact the company’s revenue streams through increased renewal percentages year over year, as well as overall day-to-day sales.

20.   What is your best memory from working at AHMC?

We recently celebrated our 25th anniversary and to be here during such an exciting time in the company’s history has really been an honor.
