We are proud to announce that Cavender’s Western Outfitter, is our very first sponsor in our newest market, Oklahoma. Cavender’s is also a current sponsor with Sponsor A Highway® in our Texas Market. Congratulations Cavender’s for leading the way for many more sponsors to follow in supporting the beautification needs of Oklahoma’s communities.

The Cavender’s Story

The year was 1957 and Elvis Presley was riding high! So was James R. Cavender! He took a chance in Pittsburg, Texas to open a Dairy Mart that year. So, what do those two things mean to you? Not much if you didn’t like rock and roll and hamburgers! But for those who did, Cavender’s Dairy Hart was the beginning of a successful career for a man who believed that hard work and good customer value would keep him in business for a lifetime.

Eight years later, James took another chance and opened a retail western wear business for men and boys; and the rest, as they say, is history. A really proud history, at that.

Company founder, James Cavender, is still active and involved. His wife Pat still decorates all new and remodeled stores. Their eldest son, Joe Cavender, serves as president of the company, while operations and leasing are headed by Mike Cavender. All private-label apparel is developed by Clay Cavender, vice president of merchandising. The Cavenders credit their success to the dedication and loyalty of their associates.

The family lives the western lifestyle, operating five working ranches throughout Texas and they gather inspiration for their products saying they are “ranch tested.” Cavender’s stores carry work wear, classic western styles, the latest trends in ladies and men’s fashion, accessories, home décor and of course, boots!

“At Cavender’s, we take exceptional care of our customers, striving to provide the best value, selection, and service in the business. It’s true – Cavender’s has something for everyone.”

Being a part of the Adopt A Highway® Sponsorship program is just one way they are doing their part to help out their community. Financial donations from the Cavender’s Community Involvement Program are funded from the company’s profits.

Their Community Involvement Program aims to help the communities that are home to our stores. We do this by:

  • Giving to organizations that support the Western lifestyle, rodeos, ranching, and agriculture education.
  • Supporting organizations and events that work to eradicate cancer and assist those fighting the disease. The devastating effects of cancer touch many lives, including the Cavender family, and for this reason, is a focus of our charitable giving.
  • Providing support for charities that benefit abused and neglected children.
  • Giving to events and organizations that give people hope and encouragement to overcome tragedies and loss.

Their Customers

According to the company website, Cavender’s customers are extraordinarily diverse. They are people who like a quality product with a friendly down-home shopping experience. Their customers come from all walks of life. Some customers are just looking for a comfortable pair of jeans, some are looking for that special head-to-toe outfit for the Cattle Baron’s Ball, and some are just “browsing,” not sure what they might find at Cavenders.com.

All of their customers are appreciated. James Cavender says it very well, “Take care of the customer and everything else will take care of itself.”
