In reading the history of Babson College, we are reminded of a time when companies and institutions were founded on good, solid principals. It’s no wonder that they have provided a quality education for nearly a century.

On September 3, 1919, with an enrollment of 27 students, the Babson Institute held its first classes in the former home of Roger and Grace Babson on Abbott Road in Wellesley Hills.

Earth Day 2017

Remember that little symbol above? It stood for “Ecology”. Since the early 70’s, getting involved with issues related to our environment, has grown steadily. Starting with that funny “e” symbol that looked like some type of Greek letter created in the 70’s by cartoonist Ron Cobb, all the way through today’s efforts with Global Warming, people have tried their best to care for our planet.

National Pet Day – April 11

Having a household pet, is something that most people have experienced at some time in their life, whether it be their own, a relative or a friend. If you’re a pet owner, it’s probably because you love animals.

In the United States, according to American Pet Products Association, It's estimated that nearly 78 million dogs and 85.8 million cats are owned in the United States.

There are many reasons why people own pets. Companionship is more than likely the number one reason because pets can combat the feeling of loneliness and in turn boost ones happiness. This is particularly true with the elderly and the sick. It’s why you will often see animals used in many hospitals and nursing homes as therapy and it is more commonly known as Animal-assisted Therapy (AAT) or Pet-facilitated Therapy (PFT).

In addition, the National Institute of Health and the Center for Disease Control have conducted studies related to heart health and pet ownership. The studies concluded that pet owners exhibited lower blood pressure as well as lower cholesterol, which also lowered the risk of a heart attack later on. It is thought that this might be related to how pets can lower their owners’ level of stress. Another benefit might also include weight loss. A recent study of more than 2,000 dog owners who walk their dogs on a regular basis were far less likely to be obese than dog owners who don’t walk their dogs on a regular basis. Pets have also shown to decrease the risk of asthma or allergies, as well as boost immune systems.

On top of all that, pets can be a great ice breaker with people who are particularly shy, or lack social skills by breaking down communication barriers, not to mention the ways that pets can build strong family bonds by bring family members closer together.

Our pets are so important to us that most people would even tell you that their pets are a member of their families. So we give them the best care we can, including having a Veterinarian you can trust. One of our very own sponsors, Noah’s Caring Hands Animal Hospital, strives to deliver the very best available veterinary care to each pet they serve. They’ve worked tirelessly to develop a comprehensive system of care and a warm, welcoming and comfortable atmosphere where their clients and their pets can feel right at home. From their state of the art facility to their modern equipment, to the cutting edge services they provide, you can trust that when you bring your companion to them for veterinary care, he or she will be in caring, competent hands.

The services provided at Noah’s Caring Hands Animal Hospital have been designed to provide for the complete health care needs of their patients, and assist them through every life stage. Whether it’s vaccinations for your puppy or kitten, internal medicine and diagnostics to manage your pet’s health as he or she ages, specialized geriatric care for your senior companion or anything else necessary to keep your pet happy and healthy, they’re prepared to be by your side, every step of the way. They want to do whatever it takes to help you and your pet enjoy as many years together as possible.

In 2016, Ilumination Entertainment released The Secret Life Of Pets. A film which gave us a hilarious insight into what our pets do while we are gone all day at work.

According to petdayusa.com, National Pet Day was founded in 2006 by Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert, Animal Welfare Advocate Colleen Paige, to celebrate the joy pets bring to our lives and to create public awareness about the plight of many different kinds of animals awaiting a forever home in shelters and rescues all around the globe. Founder, Colleen Paige says;

"I believe all animals are sentient beings that deserve our love and compassion...even not-so-cuddly animals like reptiles and rats. No animal should ever have to suffer, especially at the hand of humans. MILLIONS of unwanted animals perish every day, due to just that....being "unwanted". I'd like to ask animal lovers everywhere to pledge to give $5 a month to their favorite animal shelter or rescue to help support animals in need. Even if all you did was donate $1 a month, if a million people cared enough to do that, that's 12 MILLION dollars raised for shelters across the nation and most of you wouldn't even miss that dollar. Think of how much that would change the world for unwanted pets...especially if it were to become a global trend."

Here's a few suggestions to Celebrate National Pet Day!

  • Adopt a pet from your local shelter or pure breed rescue organization.
  • Volunteer at your local shelter and offer to care for the animals.
  • Donate blankets, food and toys to a favorite animal welfare organization.
  • Have a National Pet Day party and celebrate all your pets!
  • Spend the day taking photos of your pets and then post them on your Facebook page!
  • Buy your pet a fun new toy....or two...or five.
  • Hire a professional pet photographer for a fun photo shoot.

Happy National Pet Day!
