Today, And Every Day, We Honor Our Nation’s Heroes… Both Two-Legged and Four…

by Erin Marchesano 11. September 2014 10:53

Our thoughts are always with those who have risked their lives to defend our nation and today, on September 11, 2014 we remember and honor the heroes who came to the rescue of innocent civilians who became victims during the attack on the World Trade Center in 2001.

Among those heroes on 9/11, were our amazing four-legged friends who are often the very first responders when attempting disaster relief efforts of all kinds. The National Search Dog Foundation is one of the many organizations pairing rescue dogs with first responders and their service to this country is to be commended.

“SDF is a non-profit, non-governmental organization based in Ojai, California. Our mission is to strengthen disaster preparedness in America by partnering rescued dogs with firefighters to find people buried alive in the wreckage of disasters. The teams are provided at no cost to fire departments and other emergency service agencies throughout the country.”

Adopt A Highway Maintenance Corporation is proud to have an organization like SDF as a partner in the California Sponsor A Highway Program.

Their efforts during natural disasters can often be the difference between life and death, and their willingness to risk their lives to save others is beyond compare.

Thank you to those who have served our country.

Thank you to those out there serving our country still.

And thank you to our friends whose love for another goes far beyond their love for themselves.

You are everything to this nation, and we honor you.

“Caltrans Encourages Public to Save State Funds by Not Littering, Adopt-A-Highway”

by Erin Marchesano 12. May 2014 11:18

In a recent article published by the Daily Bulletin, Caltrans is encouraging motorists to keep the state clean with its “Don’t Trash California” campaign and is working hard to bring forth public awareness to the amount of money being spent annually on trash cleanup.

Last year, the state transportation agency spent $62 MILLION statewide on litter removal. That work included the removal of 155,000 cubic yards of trash, enough to fill over 10,000 garbage trucks!

Programs like the Adopt-A-Highway volunteer program and the Sponsor A Highway sponsorship program have greatly helped reduce that spending by having local groups cleaning up trash themselves, and also by having AHMC crew members cleaning up trash in exchange for sponsorship recognition along the freeways.

In addition, work release programs and one day permitted cleanups by local groups and state agencies are helping to reduce the problem, but this is simply not enough.

Just like in California, state transportation agencies are struggling with the ever amounting trash that continues to grow each year. This reduces property values in communities, it makes roadways unsafe for drivers, and it requires more and more money from taxpayers to keep trash levels low, when that money could be spent elsewhere by the state.

Easiest way you can make a difference? … DON’T LITTER!

Carry bags in your car to throw away trash instead of throwing it out your window. For those people that drive pick-up trucks, make sure loose particles are securely covered or tied to your truck bed so trash does not fly out onto the roadways.

If you are looking for additional ways you can help, join the Sponsor A Highway program. Your company will get your name and logo on a sign where AHMC crews will remove trash along your sponsored area in exchange for a monthly fee. It’s easy, it’s simple, and our crews do all the work while your business gets all the recognition.

We currently operate in 20 different markets. For more information about your particular market click on any of the links below:

Call us today or send us an email to find out more information about how your business can get involved, and don’t forget to mention reading our blog! We strive to bring current and relevant information to those that are interested in our program and we look forward to hearing from you!

by Erin Marchesano 16. April 2014 11:04

Each day people around the world are working hard to plan for a better future for our planet and it’s on April 22 that we gather for events, celebrations, fundraisers, and more as our way of showing our commitment to cleaner environment.

Today, more than half the world’s population lives in cities and as populations grow, the effects on these cities and their climates begin to worsen, forcing us to evolve. For over 25 years, Adopt A Highway Maintenance Corporation has been working hard to improve and support the beautification efforts being made throughout many of these cities by keeping our roadways clean.

While there is only one day dedicated to the celebration of Earth Day, here at AHMC we contribute to the cause year-round by removing MILLIONS of pounds of trash that are recycled, reduced, and reused to improve the cleanliness of our cities.

Between 2010 and 2013 AHMC crews removed over 500,000 bags of trash from roadways across America.

That’s the equivalent of 4.5 MILLION pounds of trash!

People CAN make a difference!

by Adopt A Highway 4. June 2013 13:10

While many kids his age seem to be more concerned about video games, Kale Tibbetts is far more interested in keeping the world around him beautiful. When he isn’t busy playing Ice Hockey, Soccer, or participating in Triathlons, Kale is making a difference in his community by helping keep his community clean. Kale’s respect for nature started when he was just a toddler and he would pick up pieces of litter while being pulled around in his wagon. This small effort quickly grew into a passion as Kale got a little bit older, when at the age of five, he became involved with community clean ups for the Colorado River and the Roaring Fork River. So when Peter, Kale’s Dad, contacted us after seeing the Adopt A Highway signs on the side of the road, it was our pleasure to send an instant “Little Litter Remover” kit to Kale!

Now, two years later, Kale continues to clean up in his favorite parks and hiking trails! When asked why he likes to pick up litter, Kale says, "because the trail looks better and the Earth feels better." Kale, you definitely make the world a better place, and everyone here at Adopt A Highway Maintenance Corporation would like to say, “You are Awesome!”

Earth Day is Every Day at AHMC!

by Adopt A Highway 19. April 2013 18:39

Every year on Earth Day, people take a moment to reflect on what they can do to keep our planet healthy. Fortunately, there are people who feel that one day is simply just not enough to make significant impact. Our sponsors support a program that pulled 144,094 bags of garbage off the highway last year, which is roughly the weight of 24 elephants! That’s nearly 240 tons! Not only are highways beautified, but trash is sorted and recycled. We do this all year long, and we have been doing it for over 23 years. So on this Earth Day, we would like to say thank you to all  our sponsors, who go beyond the day to make a difference for us all!

We also want to take a quick moment to give a shout out to some of our office staff here who also go a little bit out of their way to make a difference. Thank you, Carol Blunden, Joe De La Riva, and Brian Szatkowski! Our office superstars who are not only constantly competing with each other for our empty soda cans but they also e-cycle old batteries, keeping them out of landfills where they turn into hazardous waste! Every little bit helps, and when you have a lot of people doing a little bit, the difference is huge!
